Project  Outline:

AI Powered Mobile App

Challenge:

This mobile app utilizes advanced ML to craft unique, one-of-a-kind children's stories tailored to each child's imagination. With just a few quick and easy prompts, users can dictate the characters, themes, length, and overall tone of the stories. Whether the child wants a whimsical adventure with talking animals, a magical journey through an enchanted forest, or a heartwarming tale about friendship, the app's ML generates a personalized story that captivates and engages young readers.

The app is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for parents, caregivers, or even older children to create stories on the go.

Process

Competitor Research

Conducted market research and competitve anaylsis of existing and similar applications.

Product & User Flow

Mapped out the product flows and then translated that into a user flow for the interface.

Brand Design

Designed the branding of the application. Designed all the creative assests for the prototype. Developed a ML seed to replicate the look and feel of the images.

Prototype

Designed and build the functional UI component system and used it to develop the high fidelity prototypes.

Competitor Research

Below is a summary of key competitive insights from user reviews, distilled using AI, from three major competitors in the market. I conducted an audit on each app to validate these user reviews.

Competitor #1

Pros:

  • Users preferred the vast capabilities to personalize bedtime their stories, with users loving the ability to customize characters and morals.

  • Users found the overall use of the interface to be easy.

Cons:

  • Users didn't think the stories were age appropriate and there was no way to remedy this.

  • They wished for more free content or an upgrade to include animated and audio features.

  • Users strongly disliked the "token" exchange system to create stories.

Competitor #2

Pros:

  • User felt it was an innovative AI-generator for children's stories. They liked that it allows users to create custom books and videos with unique characters, settings, and themes.

  • User appreciated the accompanying visuals and say they are fun and engaging.

  • "What's Next" page at the end of each book keeps users engaged.

Cons:

  • Users express frustration with the cost structure, limited free trials, and lack of free credits.

  • AI images are distorted to fit within a container.

  • Action bar covers the top of the "book." The overall app experience.

  • There is no "auto read allowed" option rendering the app useless for children who are unable to read yet.

Competitor #3

Pros:

  • The app was great for users trying to overcome writers block.

  • Look and feel of the app was pleasing and engaging to users.

Cons:

  • The app requires a written story prompt which most users difficult to come up with.

  • The app is not good for young kids since it requires a lot of story knowledge before you begin generating stories.

  • No age filters leaving children vulnerable to inappropriate content.

  • Inability to download, share, save or copy stories.

User should be able to fully test the product before being subjected to a cost barrier. The pricing structure should NOT be a token/credit based structure and instead should be a tiered subscription base.

Using visual queues will help children generate and enjoy stories without the assistance of an adult. Young kids use tablets, the app should be a tablet first design.

It's important for users to have a lot of ability to customize their characters, their characters moral values as well as the storylines and themes that they choose to participate or not participate in.
